The name “Maxell” originated from shortening the phrase “maximum capacity dry cell,” retaining only the first and last three letters to create a distinctive brand. The Maxell name and trademark are owned by Hitachi Maxell Ltd, Japan, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd, Japan.
